Welcome to my blog. A place for me to share my thoughts, ramblings and pearls of wisdom.

WHEN 4 MEANS 2

On a holiday to an English seaside resort recently, I checked in at reception, was given my key and directed to the lift with the instructions to 'press 4'

The hotel was an old Victorian building with a rather antiquated lift, bearing a notice : 2 persons and luggage or 3 persons, no luggage.

There were 2 of us with luggage...we qualified to ride the elevator. I pressed 4 as instructed and off we went. We stopped at a floor where 2 people were waiting to go down.

'Is this 4 ?' I asked.

'No, it's 2.

So, once more in lift for: 2 persons and luggage or 3 persons, no luggage, I pressed 4 and off we went.

Lift stopped, door opened and there were the same 2 people waiting to go down.

Press 4, I was told, so I did, and off went lift for: 2 persons with luggage or 3 persons, no luggage, this time it went down instead of up and we arrived back at reception where a rather long queue had formed for the lift for :2 persons with luggage or 3 persons, no luggage

'Press 4' hollered an impatient man. I did, and off we went, yet again in lift for: 2persons with luggage or 3 persons , no luggage. We went up, then down.

Eventually the receptionist arrived to say,' you are gong to floor 2'

Me: ''I thought it was floor 4'

Receptionist; 'There's no floor 4. press 4 to go to floor 2'

Ah, I thought, 4 means 2. Why didn't they say so?

So, finally, we arrived at the correct floor in lift for: 2persons with luggage or 3 persons, no luggage.
